In-house Solutions, Canada: Octopuz off-line programming solution

Many Visual Components partnerships start from smaller cooperation and slowly grow into relationships that last for years. Visual Components and In-House Solutions have worked in close collaboration since 2013. We talked to Edward House, CEO and president at In-House Solutions, a Canada based provider of CAD/CAM, DNC, PCMM and Robotic programming software solutions, to hear what his experience has been working with Visual Components.
A powerful simulation software
The In-House Solutions - Visual Components collaboration begun, as In-House Solutions contacted Visual Components about the possibility of working together towards building more flexible solutions for robot off-line-programming. “We had this idea for a product that could perform off-line-programming of robots as well as handle the vast array of simulations manufacturers typically need,” Edward House says. According to him, Visual Components was an ideal candidate for the role. “We found Visual Components to be a very powerful simulation software in a competitive price range. Also, the people at VC were knowledgeable, open and progressive with their company plans.”
Since the beginning of their collaboration, In-House Solutions has experienced a number of valuable benefits from using the Visual Components tools. These include being able to provide their customers extensive savings in time, especially in the field of off-line-programming, great flexibility in application development and, more importantly, many satisfied customers.
The Visual Components platform is flexible and versatile
In-House Solutions has extensive off-line-programming expertise and what they initially were looking for was above all a platform that could be used for developing a number of different applications. “Visual Components is an extremely versatile platform,” Edward House says.
“We can visualize the entire process from start to finish rather than focusing on a single facet. The robot library available is extensive, and it includes configurations and brands that are not programmable with other software packages. The ability to use Python scripts also allows us to customize the software, so we can provide the end user with the best solution for their specific application.”
Hard-to-believe benefits to customers
Simplifying their customers’ processes is often one major goal for an In-House Solutions customer process. “Very often our customers have very complex robot paths. They are used to spending a lot of time on manual path generation,” Edward House says. The Visual Components solution is known among its users as a time saver, however, according to Edward House, the In-House Solutions customers often have a hard time believing just how much more effective the company can make their processes. “They won’t believe it before they see it!” Edward House says. “We have to literally break it down for them. We do a lot of sample applications to actually show how it works.”
Indeed, the time savings In-House Solutions has been able to provide to their customers with Visual Components are impressive. The time spent on path generation is cut to at least a half of what it previously was. Often the time saved is around 80 or 90 percent. “We are counting the amount of saved time in days,” Edward House says. “Generally path generation used to take several days to complete. Now we can do it in a matter of hours! No other software makes processing large paths this fast.”
The In-House Solutions service package includes customer support once the initial process is over and e.g. simulation support, training and robot cell reprogramming is provided to their customers. The Visual Components solutions are in a key role in several stages of the In-House Solutions customer process. “We strive to, for example, train our customers to easily update their own robot cells using Visual Components,” Edward House says.
A deepening relationship
While there are other simulation tools available, Visual Components is a top choice for In-House Solutions. “In our field, many companies use visualization and off-line programming tools. However, none of those tools are as sophisticated or as powerful as Visual Components,” Edward House says. “No other tool offers all the functions on one platform. Also, the price of the service is reasonable.”
In addition to being able to offer considerable benefits to their customers In-House Solutions sees advantages also in their sales. “Very often we encounter customers who have worked in a certain way for decades,” Edward House says. “It’s not the easiest thing to come in and say that, look, you need to change. However with Visual Components simulation, we can show the factual benefits of making the changes. Once they see them for themselves, the customers are easily convinced.”
In-House Solutions and Visual Components continue to work together. “You know, it’s the whole package,” Edward House says. “Easy path generation with great visualization and simulation. What more can you ask for?”
