Congressman Dold Visits Dynomax Inc. to Discuss Challenges Facing Small Businesses

Because of its rapid growth within the past few years, Congressman Robert Dold (IL-10) visited high-precision contract manufacturer Dynomax Inc. Tuesday, June 28, to highlight successful businesses in the state of Illinois. Dold met with the company’s executive management, including CEO and founder Dr. Richard Zic, to discuss the shortage of properly trained, qualified workers and the need for better technical education. In a town-hall meeting, employees were able to discuss with the congressman how federal policy would affect the manufacturing industry, and particularly small businesses, in the future.“I’m here today to learn about the barriers that are preventing you from hiring more workers,” said Dold. “As small business owners, we understand what it takes to create a job, make a payroll, and meet a budget. The best ideas come from you and your innovation,” he added. Dold expressed the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education; such programs add technically capable members to the workforce.
Dynomax has invested heavily in new facilities and equipment, but struggles to find qualified job candidates requiring certain technical skills. To help overcome this problem, “Dynomax provides community outreach that supports STEM programs for local middle and high school students, and internship/co-op programs for engineering and machine technology students from universities and community colleges,” says Zic.
Dynomax has grown tremendously throughout the economic crisis, when most small businesses were struggling to survive. The company added fifty employees in 2010. In May, it hired a record-breaking fifteen people, and continues to grow. It now employs nearly 300 employees among its facilities in Wheeling, Lincolnshire and Mundelein. At the end of the year, it will inaugurate its Buffalo Grove facility, which is being remodeled to accommodate additional service offerings.
