ROSS CONTROLS® Provides Safety Product Data for SISTEMA Library Users
Ross Controls Posted 02/16/2010
(TROY, MI) – ROSS CONTROLS is pleased to announce the release of its safety product data library designed for use with the innovative new Safety Integrity Software Tool for the Evaluation of Machine Applications (SISTEMA). Developed by the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health of the German Social Accident Insurance (IFA, formerly know as the BGIA), SISTEMA is available to download for no charge at the IFA web site. This software tool is expected to prove invaluable to system designers because of its potential time savings and safety implications.
Besides having data suitable for use in this world-class system development tool, ROSS CONTROLS is conveniently providing free library data for a selection of its safety products. ROSS expects to expand the data offerings in the future, but currently, data for the following products are available:
- DM2® Series C Category-4 control-reliable double valves with dynamic monitoring and memory
- DM2® Series D Category-4 control-reliable double valves with dynamic monitoring and memory
- DM2® Series E Category-4 control-reliable double valves with dynamic monitoring and memory
- DM1 Series Category-3 control-reliable double valves with dynamic monitoring
- 5/2 CROSSMIRROR® Series Category-4 control-reliable double valves with dynamic monitoring
The ROSS DM2® Series safety products meet all global requirements for machine safety and are commonly used for exhausting the downstream air to help meet stop-time requirements in machine guarding applications. ROSS DM2® Series C safety valves have received third-party certification from the BG deeming the products suitable for ISO 13849-1:2006 Category 4 PL e applications. Additionally, all DM2® Series valves will be labeled with the CE (Conformite Europeenne) mark to comply with the New Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) that took effect in the European Union as of December 29, 2009.
SISTEMA was developed by the IFA for evaluating machine safeguarding systems using the new EN ISO 13849-1:2008 standard. The EN ISO 13849-1:2008 standard is likely to become the most widely used standard for machine safety system design. It applies to all control system technologies (electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic) and can be applied to complete systems or subsystems. Designers will also note the transition to “Performance Level” (a, b, c, d, e) classifications in place of “Categories” (B, 1, 2, 3, 4) as were used in the EN 954-1 standard.
ROSS safety valve customers will find convenience and increased system design accuracy with this free software tool and data library. It can enhance their overall safety program and offers a simple way to help ensure compliance with the new EN ISO 13849-1:2008 standard.
