ROBOTIC RESOURCES

Robotic Birds of Prey Make their Mark on the Food Packaging Industry

ABB Inc.

YORK, Pa. - JLS Automation and ABB Robotics announce the release of the new video highlighting JLS’s history of success implementing vision-guided robotics into the North American food packaging segment.  The video release corresponds with both companies’ participation in Pack Expo 2013 held in the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada September 23-25, 2013.  JLS Automation will be exhibiting in Booth #S5931 and ABB in Booth #C4113.

Using the imagery of birds of prey snatching fish from rivers with great speed and agility, JLS has developed the “Talon” series of systems for primary and secondary food packaging. The JLS product line includes the Osprey, Peregrine, and Heron systems, all of which are designed to meet specific packaging functionality or package formats. The ABB IRB 360 FlexPicker robot is the technology platform for all of these JLS systems.

Since JLS has been deploying vision guided, robotic based packaging systems into the food industry in North America starting in 2002, their experience has prompted a bit of boasting.  According to Craig Souser, President of JLS, “We hear a lot about how robots don’t work in the food industry.  Most often, the failures are due to the lack of experience by the integrator, not the technology.  At JLS, we’ve invested 12+ years in the development and refinement of our Talon and Osprey systems.  We’re proud of our ‘real world’ experience and believe it brings real value to our customers.”

JLS Automation is a leading supplier of Packaging Systems for the Food Industry including High Speed Picking, Product Feeding Systems.  JLS is a member of PMMI and FPSA as well as a Strategic Partner for ABB Robotics.
