actuator (noun)
1. mechanism used to effect motion
2. power mechanism which converts electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic energy to effect motion
3. mechanical mechanism within a control device; a device which initiates a(n) (un)locking sequence

attended program verification (verb)
1. the act when a person within the safeguarded space verifies the robot’s programmed tasks at programmed speed (this is not teach mode)

automatic mode (noun)
1. operating mode in which the control system operates in accordance with the task program

collaborative robot (noun)
1. robot designed for direct interaction with a human within a defined shared workspace. (Source: RIA TR R15.206-2008)

end-effector (noun)
1. an accessory device or tool specifically designed for attachment to the robot wrist or tool mounting plate to enable the robot to perform its intended task (examples may include gripper, spot weld gun, arc weld gun, spray paint gun, or any other application tools)

industrial robot (noun)
1. an automatically controlled, reprogrammable multipurpose manipulator programmable in three or more axes which may be either fixed in place or mobile for use in industrial automation applications

industrial robot system (noun)
1. equipment that includes the robot(s) (hardware and software) consisting of the manipulator power supply and control system; the end-effector(s); and any other associated machinery and equipment within the safeguarded space

interlock (noun)
1. an arrangement whereby the operation of one control or mechanism allows or prevents the operation of another

limiting device (noun)
1. a device that restricts the maximum space by stopping or causing to stop all robot motion and is independent of the control program and the task programs.

presence-sensing safeguarding device (noun)
1. device designed, constructed and installed to create a sensing field or area to detect intrusion or presence within such field or area by personnel, robots or other objects

safety stop (noun)
a type of interruption that allows an orderly cessation of motion for safeguarding purposes. This stop retains the program logic for trouble shooting purposes and to facilitate a restart

singularity (noun)
1. condition caused by the collinear alignment of two or more robot axes resulting in unpredictable robot motion and velocity

synchronized robots (noun)
1. robots having one or more controllers all with common mathematically coordinated movements which may be variable in their correlation. (Source: RIA TR R15.206-2008)
