Controls Designer

Design, build and maintain controls systems for KC ROBOTICS, INC., an industrial robotic systems integrator.  Our custom systems include pneumatics, servos, frequency drives, vision systems communication networks, touchscreen, pushbuttons and robotic integration.  With over 26 years in robotics, our company offers stability, experience, and a wide range of technical expertise. Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Analyze project requirements and review customer SOW/RFP/RFQ specifications in order to develop customized electrical and control system design solutions for various automation applications
  • Perform technical calculations supporting design including electrical requirements, robotic safety standards and motor controls; prepare detailed drawings as required
  • Provide installation/start-up/debug assistance as needed; advise Engineering Manager of equipment installation issues and potential corrective actions
  • Create and maintain controls hardware and software for standard products and evaluate future options for improvement
  • Create accurate Bill of Materials - define equipment and parts from external suppliers; obtain Engineering Manager’s approval
  • Prepare detailed software including PLC and HMI programs as required
  • Identify gaps, create gap lists and communicate with project team; resolve any conflicts and potential corrective actions with Engineering Manager
  • Support sales team in pre-sales technical concept and budgeting activities; and provide technical support to external and internal customers

Minimum Skills & Abilities

  • Strong fundamental knowledge of control and electrical system design and its application in automated industrial designs including specification of vision, power, sensor, inspection, communications systems, and Robot & HMI Programming
  • Proficient with MS Office, Cognex Vision Systems, Allen Bradley RSLogix 5000, and Solid Works Electrical.
  • PLC programming – advanced knowledge of multiple cross-functional platforms (ladder logic form; statement logic-flow diagrams, etc.); robotic programming
  • Project management skills, including finance and budget knowledge
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and travel as required to support projects (30%)
  • Requires US Citizenship, US Permanent Residency; or status as a US person

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Industrial Engineering (or related field) preferred
  • 5+ years PLC controls engineering experience in an industrial setting
  • 2+ Years PLC controls experience in robotics
