ASK THE EXPERTS

Safety Questions

Question Asked:

Hi. We are a robot integrator and also we design the robot cells(mechanical/guarding and electrical/safety circuits). I understand how to do the risk assessment part, but I'm confused about the checklists Part 1: Annex F and Part 2:Annex G of ANSI-RIA R15.06. We once hired a professional safety assessment firm on our behalf, and they only completed Part 1:Annex F. But we are now going to do our own assessments, and I feel as though we should be doing both. Any suggestions from another integrator/OEM? Do you fill out one of them or both? Thanks in advance.

Part 1, Annex F covers only the robot as a "partially completed machine". It has no end effector or tooling. Part 1 applies to the robot manufacturer. Part 2, Annex G covers the completed "robot system". Part 2 applies to the robot integrator. This is described in the introduction to the standard: "To assist in the understanding of this standard, certain "stakeholders" have been assigned specific responsibilities. The robot manufacturer is addressed in Part 1, while the integrator and installer are addressed in Part 2." As an integrator, you are providing a complete robot system and would use Part 2, Annex G
