I am currently a senior at Georgia Tech in Industrial and Systems Engineering. I will be pursuing a career in robotics (primarily in industrial robotics) upon graduation (currently planned on 2018). I have worked at KUKA Robotics at both Mercedes and Tesla over the summer (internship). My current degree program has NOTHING to do with robotics WHATSOEVER. I have received 5+ job offers from several companies with yearly pay ranging from $70,000-$100,000, and I have had to turn them all down because I am in school. Do you think it is worth continuing with this degree program or pursuing specialized trainings in industrial robotics like FANUC, KUKA, Siemens PLCs, etc. and taking one of these jobs? Would not having a degree keep you from rising into management?

I am interested in gaining more experience with programming and integrating industrial robots and I want to apply in the future at Tesla as a Robotics Engineer. How can I gain more skills with programming robots like Fanuc and KUKA to make myself more competitive? Please keep in mind I did work for KUKA Robotics at Mercedes and Tesla over the summer, but I didn't get a whole lot of experience with programming and once I get out of school I would like to apply to work at Tesla.

Hello. I am a sophomore in college majoring in Mechatronics Engineering. I was wondering what advice do you have to someone like me who wants to get experience in this field, specifically in robotics. Are there any type of certifications I can work on that will distinguish me between my classmates? My main focus is in animatronics, but I lack the skill, experience, and knowledge of anything in robotics. Are there any types of events I can attend or programs I can look into that will help me in my path, besides going to college? Thank you so much.

Hello, I am a student working on a project on robot movements and its respective times. I am supposed to pre-define the gripping times of different gripping systems, in regard to this subject, I need some information on the time required for gripping operations for different types of grippers (for example, jaw opening and closing times of 3 finger grippers, etc.). Could you provide me the technical product information regarding your gripping systems and its gripping times? Thank you in advance. Regards, Varun

I am an electrical engineer with experience in product development. I am changing jobs due to relocation to Grand Rapids, MI and looking to transition to Industrial Automation and Robotics. I know that I can leverage my experience in actuators, sensors, controls, programming, mechatronics, and data acquisition. However, I have no specific experience in manufacturing, PLCs, machine hardware, industrial robot programming, etc. How can I quickly bridge this gap and acquire the skills and knowledge I need (e.g. classes, training, events, resources)? Or can I get a company to see my potential to acquire these skills on the job?

Hello, I have an undergoing project where I am supposed to calculate the time required for Point-to-Point Motion of a robot. Since I am completely new to robotics, I am finding it a little complicated. Could someone please direct me to the right literature, to find out an alogorithm through which the Total Time required for the motion can be calculated. The only parameter I have is the distance to be travelled between the points. Thanks & Regards.

In July, our University is sponsoring 20-25 high school students who want to learn about Robotics. As part of the program, the students will be building robots and competing with them. We would also like the student to visit a true robotics facility and perhaps have someone who works in the field speak to them about how robots are being used or some other relevant topic. We are also looking for someone to come to our University to speak to the students for about 1.5 hours about robotics. Can you recommend a company that would be willing to host us and/or a speaker? Your help in this regard is appreciated.

I have to develop a "prove concept" research/project by NASA-JPL. The objective is to create a system capable of building infrastructure in Mars using autonomous robots and the martian soil as material. Since we are starting this project, our main goal is to create a system capable of building only a wall. Assuming we already know how to solidify Martian soil to create a brick (Wich we don't know how to do yet). I need to come up with robot capable of picking those bricks and stack them to build the wall. My main question here: I am looking for a non-expensive (working under a budget) robot/arm/drone capable of lifting a payload of at least 2kg. it has to be able to locate the bricks, pick them up and place them in a specific place. I have been searching for commercial robotic arms (ie. dobot, 7bot, M100RAK V2 Modular Robotic Arm, etc) all of them can be programmed for a specific task using a microcontroller but their payload is 0.5kg.) Does someone has an idea of how can I make this work? maybe not to use a robotic arm (or maybe modify the arm) but a drone would be more convenient but not as accurate as an arm.

I am a director for a workforce development division of a community college and we are considering a welding robot due to the large volume of manufacturers in the region. Though our program is "non-credit" I believe allowing the GMAW students to become familiar with robotic welding operations will make them more appealing to potential employers. I have considered a turnkey system but wondered if purchasing all of the components and utilizing our existing power sources would be a good option.

Hi, I'm in sixth grade and I'm doing a project on robots. I have so many questions and I don't know were to start. So, I guess I'll start with the one question about robots that I've wondered since I was about five years old. "How do you even start building a robot?" I've tried it many times before. The closest I've ever gotten is building a cat out of stuff we never use. The cat didn't work though. Me and my siblings just pretended it did. That was really fun but now I want to stop pretending and actually take the opportunity to do it. I'm eager to learn anything you can teach me.

I am working on a academic project which is mainly concerned with the robotics industry - as I am a Brazilian citizen I'll be mainly focusing on this specific market, but will also mention key facts/numbers on Latin America as well. I have been finding it quite difficult to find reports on academic databases - Any suggestions on where to get relevant info on the industry, please?
