I'm currently 2 semesters away from getting my certificate in Robotics and Automation, and am curious as to what are the best first steps to take in starting my career? The interview and hiring process, and any advice that you can give to someone looking for entry level at my current experience level, which is still actively studying, but no experience in the industry.

I am a student at UMKC working on a self-driving robot car for my senior design. One of the requirements for my project is to fabricate or modify a design of an electronic component made up of active and passive elements. Originally I planned to create a pcb circuit that would regulate voltage. The problem is that the battery that is connected to my raspberry pi only supplies 5V and the battery from from the chassis does not need to be regulated either. I was wondering if there was another custom made electronic component I could add to serve a significant function to my car. Does anyone have any good ideas?

I'm the lead CNC programmer in a relatively high-mix low-to-med-volume (20-1000pc) shop and I've been talking with the CEO of the shop about adding a machine tending robot by the end of 2019. I'm trying to educate myself as much as possible so that I can easily adapt the robot to different machine tending applications and teach the rest of my programming team to do the same. I've visited a local makerspace to start learning on the lowest possible level with some arduino and raspberry pi projects. Where else can I find educational resources to learn how to self-integrate and get familiar with robots to make our endeavor successful?

I am a student with Missouri State University working in a project group concerning the market analysis, design, and manufacture of robotic quick-change adapters and end-effectors. My question is simple in that if someone could a brief explanation/description as to the typical design elements (i.e. pneumatic, magnetic, electrical, locking, etc.) typically seen in market for quick-change adapters, what would it be?

I am currently a senior at Georgia Tech in Industrial and Systems Engineering. I will be pursuing a career in robotics (primarily in industrial robotics) upon graduation (currently planned on 2018). I have worked at KUKA Robotics at both Mercedes and Tesla over the summer (internship). My current degree program has NOTHING to do with robotics WHATSOEVER. I have received 5+ job offers from several companies with yearly pay ranging from $70,000-$100,000, and I have had to turn them all down because I am in school. Do you think it is worth continuing with this degree program or pursuing specialized trainings in industrial robotics like FANUC, KUKA, Siemens PLCs, etc. and taking one of these jobs? Would not having a degree keep you from rising into management?

I am interested in gaining more experience with programming and integrating industrial robots and I want to apply in the future at Tesla as a Robotics Engineer. How can I gain more skills with programming robots like Fanuc and KUKA to make myself more competitive? Please keep in mind I did work for KUKA Robotics at Mercedes and Tesla over the summer, but I didn't get a whole lot of experience with programming and once I get out of school I would like to apply to work at Tesla.

Hello. I am a sophomore in college majoring in Mechatronics Engineering. I was wondering what advice do you have to someone like me who wants to get experience in this field, specifically in robotics. Are there any type of certifications I can work on that will distinguish me between my classmates? My main focus is in animatronics, but I lack the skill, experience, and knowledge of anything in robotics. Are there any types of events I can attend or programs I can look into that will help me in my path, besides going to college? Thank you so much.

Hello, I am a student working on a project on robot movements and its respective times. I am supposed to pre-define the gripping times of different gripping systems, in regard to this subject, I need some information on the time required for gripping operations for different types of grippers (for example, jaw opening and closing times of 3 finger grippers, etc.). Could you provide me the technical product information regarding your gripping systems and its gripping times? Thank you in advance. Regards, Varun

I am an electrical engineer with experience in product development. I am changing jobs due to relocation to Grand Rapids, MI and looking to transition to Industrial Automation and Robotics. I know that I can leverage my experience in actuators, sensors, controls, programming, mechatronics, and data acquisition. However, I have no specific experience in manufacturing, PLCs, machine hardware, industrial robot programming, etc. How can I quickly bridge this gap and acquire the skills and knowledge I need (e.g. classes, training, events, resources)? Or can I get a company to see my potential to acquire these skills on the job?

Hello, I have an undergoing project where I am supposed to calculate the time required for Point-to-Point Motion of a robot. Since I am completely new to robotics, I am finding it a little complicated. Could someone please direct me to the right literature, to find out an alogorithm through which the Total Time required for the motion can be calculated. The only parameter I have is the distance to be travelled between the points. Thanks & Regards.

In July, our University is sponsoring 20-25 high school students who want to learn about Robotics. As part of the program, the students will be building robots and competing with them. We would also like the student to visit a true robotics facility and perhaps have someone who works in the field speak to them about how robots are being used or some other relevant topic. We are also looking for someone to come to our University to speak to the students for about 1.5 hours about robotics. Can you recommend a company that would be willing to host us and/or a speaker? Your help in this regard is appreciated.
