Fronius Announces Plans for New US Headquarters in Portage, IN
Fronius Posted 07/05/2011Austria-based Fronius International GmbH to open US headquarters in Portage, IN to help its vigorous worldwide expansion, plans to add up to 512 new jobs by 2016.
Fronius, one of the world's leading developers and manufacturers of battery charging systems, welding technology and solar electronics has announced plans to launch its US headquarters in Portage, IN in the third quarter of 2012. Indiana Governor Mitchell E. Daniels and Portage Mayor Olga G. Velazquez joined Fronius executives, employees and other dignitaries in Northwest Indiana at a ceremony on June 23, 2011 of the future site of the Fronius US headquarters.
Thomas Herndler, member of the Management Board for the manufacturing department of Fronius, believes the US expansion reflects the goals of the rapidly-expanding organization.
“We’re excited to be able to introduce more of the US especially to Fronius’ forward-thinking people, quality products and superior service which have helped our position as a global leader in all three areas of our operations,” says Herndler.
For over 65 years the name Fronius has stood for intensive research and the constant search for new, innovative solutions. The family-owned and privately-held company has state-of-the-art products which have received numerous international awards for innovation, environmental stewardship and best practices. Fronius converts energy and is recognized as a technology leader in three sectors:
- In battery charging Fronius is the trailblazer for energy- and cost-saving charging technology.
- In the field of welding technology, Fronius is a competent partner to the international automotive industry and other metalworking industries where high quality is a major concern.
- Its superior know-how has also established Fronius in the field of photovoltaics, where it produces high-quality solar electronics.
The strong growth requires the development of new areas for all divisions. In addition to the extension of the production and logistics site in Sattledt and the sales office in Wels, one of the largest R&D centers in Austria is being created in Thalheim. Not only is a US headquarters in Portage underway, a new regional head office is being built in France, the production site in Ceský Krumlov, Czech Republic is being extended, and a production facility for solar inverters has recently been constructed in Canada.
Impact in Indiana and Internationally
The Portage facility will tentatively employ up to 512 people by the end of 2016 in a variety of capacities, including technology positions, production roles and office administration jobs for the technology leader. Some employees will transfer from the company’s current Michigan-based office. The current location will continue to support the surrounding regions with sales, service and application support now and in the future. With the addition of the Portage location, Fronius will employ over 4,000 people across the world.
“The people of Indiana have been very helpful in welcoming us to the community,” says Wolfgang Niedrist, Managing Director for US sales of Fronius. “We can’t wait to get to know Portage even better as we open our doors.” “We’re excited to bring new jobs anywhere in Indiana, but we’re particularly excited Fronius has chosen northwest Indiana,” says Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels. “Fronius is well-established, fast-growing and at the top of their field, exactly the kind of company we’ve rebuilt the Indiana business climate to attract.”
