Description

The Quality Assurance Technician develops, supports and maintains quality systems to meet ISO standard requirements as well as expectations of PIA Automation and its customers. This position performs inspection and tests parts or products for defects/deviations from design specification.  This position is also involved in developing processes and supporting documents to ensure products and/or services are designed and produced to meet or exceed customer requirements and expectations.

 

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Quality Inspection

  • Maintain quality control standards by verifying dimensions of machined parts according to drawings using tools such as; micrometers, verneirs, height gauges, optical comparators, CMM’s and other specific measuring equipment
  • Work with Design and Purchasing groups to establish/clarify and communicate quality requirements from external suppliers
  • Reject, tag and manage initial disposition of defective material
  • Record and communicate inspection results to management and/or suppliers
  • Approve finished products by confirming specifications in accordance with drawings by conducting visual and measurement tests, returning defective products for re-work and confirming rework
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations

     

Calibration of Measuring Devices

  • Responsible for logging, scheduling and conducting/supervising the calibration of all measuring devices
  • Maintain and calibrate measuring instruments
  • Work with outside vendors to have equipment/devices calibrated as necessary
  • Inspect straps and maintain inspection record

     

Auditing and Certification Maintenance

  • IMS administration/certification maintenance to include and not limited to ISO 9001
  • Assist with documentation of quality related issues including reporting of root cause and corrective actions
  • Assist with supplier audits when necessary
  • Maintain current knowledge base of existing and emerging regulations, standards, and/or guidance documents regarding calibration and quality inspection
  • Continuous Improvement

  • Support CI projects as required
  • Support 5S activities
  • Assist Quality Manager with preparation of CI documents

     

    Machine Validation

  • Interface with Project Management to verify tolerances and testing criteria.
  • Establish means of conducting testing and studies during design phase “design with intent”
  • Performs tests and calculations, compiles data and summarizes test results into test reports and checklists / logs. Verifies calculations are consistent with results of measurements. Determines whether product passes or fails subject to review by QC Manager
  • Report to team results of tests and studies and make recommendations as needed
  • Assist the Quality Manager with other duties as required

Minimum Skills & Abilities

  • Experience using measuring tools and instruments
  • Must have a sharp and intricate ability to visually inspect; i.e. must be able to distinguish the colour, and minute details of incoming parts
  • Able to identify various surface finishes and roughness averages
  • Experience calibrating and certifying measuring equipment
  • Fundamental understanding of quality ISO standards, philosophies, principles, systems, methods and tools
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office applications including: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Experience using MiniTab is preferred
  • Strong analytical aptitude
  • Ability to create, read and manage inspection and test plans
  • Excellent knowledge of GD&T
  • Ability to read blue prints
  • Ability to work on CMM would be an asset
  • Results-oriented
  • Must be able to prioritize workload
  • Self-starter and proactive for completion of all deliverables
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interface with all departments as well as vendors and customers.

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in a related field. Certificate in Quality Assurance, Quality Technician or Metrology preferred
  • Ability to read drawings and specification
  • A basic understanding of ISO 9001 quality standard and document control requirements
  • Proficient in the use of gauges, micrometers, calipers and reference tables
