Description

Mechanical Design Engineer-Solve customer needs with innovative designs. Thinking out of the box is a requirement. As a lead member of a project team, you’ll work alongside our Applications, Controls, and Build teams to design, build, program, and deploy custom automated equipment and solutions for every application, process for multiple indistries.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works closely with Manufacturing, Controls Engineering and Project Management to follow a project from its inception to the final customer acceptance and sign-off, provides follow up and support after this point
  • Interprets schematics to develop complete system designs
  • Maintain project schedules
  • Interpret and have design input into mechanical drawings
  • Participates in reviewing and releasing final engineering drawings to the manufacturing department
  • Participates in design review meetings for internal, as well as outsourced, designs
  • Involved with creating and maintaining an accurate bill of material (BOM) for designed/engineered equipment
  • Ensures the equipment being started up and commissioned operates in accordance with the approved customer specification; interprets engineering drawings and specifications to develop and provide equipment installation instructions which are compliant with site installation requirements
  • Develops equipment specifications for the internal mechanical design and/or build by outside vendors; ensures the selected suppliers follow FLT processes and meet project quality and delivery expectations, as well as maintaining the appropriate budget
  • Ensures that FLT products and services continue to be the benchmark within the industry
  • Demonstrates a commitment to FLT Core Beliefs
  • Demonstrates a commitment to safe work practices while on FLT or the customer’s premises
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to demonstrate strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines without endangering the integrity of the equipment or compromising safety requirements
  • Ability to interact professionally with customers and suppliers, while maintaining a positive working relationship
  • Ability to work onsite within the FLT offices or at customer locations as required
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office programs

Advanced knowledge of mechanical design software applications (SolidWorks preferred)

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other closely-related engineering discipline or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of on the job design and engineering experience related to custom machinery and/or capital equipment
  • 2+ years of on the job experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Catia, Unigraphics, or other comparable CAD design software
