Roberta is the Global Technical Compliance Officer at Universal Robots responsible for product safety and reducing barriers to global acceptance and deployment. Within this scope, she is an active public speaker to help companies embrace UR robots as “smart robots” that enable collaborative robot system applications, while participating in standards development and providing training to Universal Robots’ staff globally.
Roberta Nelson Shea has already spent over 40 years as a professional within the field of manufacturing automation, 23 of them additionally chairing the US-American National Robot Safety Committee, which developed ANSI/RIA R15.06 and various technical reports for industrial robots. As Convenor of ISO/TC 299 WG3 (industrial robotics), she lead the introduction of ISO/TS 15066, which, as an extension of the established ISO 10218, is the first document defining standardized safety requirements within human-robot-collaboration (HRC).
Roberta Nelson Shea holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, a Master of Engineering in Advanced Safety Engineering and Management and TUV certification as a functional safety engineerBefore joining Universal Robots, she headed the global product management of a range of safety product components at Rockwell Automation. Further, her background encompasses a successful and strong track record of management positions at Symbotic LLC, Applied Manufacturing Technologies, Pilz Automation Safety L.P., Honeywell, and Procter & Gamble Manufacturing Company.
