JR Automation Interview 

  1. Scot Lindemann, Vice President, JR AutomationTell me a little bit about your company. When was the company founded and how many employees?
    JR Automation was founded in 1980 with 4 individuals specializing in pattern manufacturing then moving to assembly automation a few years later.

    Currently JR has over 480 employees in 5 locations.

  2. What are the primary industries you serve? What markets do you serve – global or domestic?
    JR serves a broad variety of industries including automotive, consumer products, military, aerospace and medical device. We have equipment in Eastern Europe, Asia, Australia and Mexico.

  3. What is your vision for the company?
    Our goal is to fully understand our customers complete manufacturing process including material handling, quality challenges, and batch sizes, change over frequency, maintenance capability, etc. then provide assembly and manufacturing solutions that fit the specific challenges based on best practices in our industry.

  4. Why did you decide to become RIA certified?
    JR has been integrating robots for many years prior to being certified. We wanted to go thru the certification process to validate our implementation methods and ensure our employees are following the proper guidelines.

  5. Give an example of a challenging application your company developed.
    JR has developed several challenging applications. One of these applications was putting body molding tape onto a variety of car body molded components robotically. JR developed a tape head to apply and cut the tape; created the head so it can be changed out with another when the tape gets low along with development of the robot programs to apply the tape to several varieties of parts. 

  6.  What are some of the best practices your company follows?
    Our company is ISO certified. This helps us when new employees are being trained. We have a great data base that describes our processes. We also have lessons learned meetings after projects are complete to evaluate good things and things that need improvement.
